GEO basics
What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the work of making a business accurately findable, understandable and recommendable in answers written by AI assistants and AI search, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews.
It covers three things: what those systems can read and verify on your own website, what independent sources say about you, and whether the answers they give about you are correct and favourable for the right buyers. Read our full guide to GEO.
How is GEO different from SEO?
GEO builds on SEO but measures a different result: whether an AI-written answer names, cites and recommends your business, rather than where a link ranks on a results page.
The foundations are shared — pages that crawlers can reach, clear content, accurate structured data. GEO adds questions SEO does not ask: does the answer mention you at all, is your own page the source it cites, are the facts it repeats about you correct, and are you recommended when a buyer states specific needs such as budget, location or timing?
Which AI assistants do you test?
We test the five main AI assistants: ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), Perplexity and Grok (xAI). A Standard check asks each assistant's everyday model — GPT-5.6 Sol in ChatGPT, Claude Sonnet 5.5 in Claude, Gemini 3.8 Flash in Gemini, Sonar Pro in Perplexity and Grok 4.6 in Grok. A Deep check asks every current model people can use in them: 19 as of October 2026.
We test through each provider's official API with live web search, record the exact model version that answered and keep each answer with the sources it cited. API answers are close to, but not identical to, what people see in the apps, so we report each model separately and never present one as the whole market. Every model we check · How we measure.
Can you guarantee that ChatGPT or another AI will recommend my business?
No — and you should be wary of anyone who does. No one outside the companies that build these assistants controls what they say, and the answers change as the models and the web change.
What we commit to is the work and the evidence: a clear audit of how each AI model answers your buyers' questions today, a prioritized plan, accurate fixes approved by you, and repeated measurement that shows what changed — including when it did not.
How long does it take for AI answers to change?
There is no fixed timeline. Assistants that search the web while they answer can pick up a clearer page soon after it is crawled; answers that rely on what a model learned in training change only when the model is updated.
That is why we re-measure the same frozen set of questions on a schedule and report the trend per AI model, instead of promising a date.
Working with Echo Tuner
What does a GEO audit include?
A GEO audit shows how AI assistants answer the questions your buyers ask today, why, and what to change first.
It includes: a crawl of your website with a list of anything we could not read; a profile of your products or services built from your own pages; a panel of buyer questions (broad, specific and multi-requirement) asked about you and your main competitors alike; a page-by-page review of which buyer facts each page states, with the exact passage; the answers each AI model gave, with the sources it cited; a readiness assessment for the business, each offering and each page; a competitor comparison; a review of independent sources such as listings and reviews; and a prioritized site and off-site plan. See the audit in detail.
How long does a GEO audit take?
An audit takes about 1–3 business days. We schedule it as soon as it's paid, Echo Tuner staff run it, and the results appear in your portal as each part is ready.
Who does the work?
Echo Tuner staff. Our own platform collects your pages, asks the AI models and keeps every answer with its sources; our staff run each audit and check, review the findings, confirm facts with you and write your plan.
Nothing about your business is published until you have confirmed it is true.
Do I need to rebuild my website?
Almost never. Most improvements are clearer facts on pages you already have — what you offer, what it costs or how it is priced, what is included, who it suits, where you work and how to start — plus accurate structured data and a few missing pages.
Your plan lists each change against the page it belongs on, so your team or your web developer can make it, or we can.
Do you need access to my website or accounts?
Not for the audit: we only read public pages and public sources, the same way an AI assistant does.
For fixes you choose: we hand you approved drafts and markup to publish, or you give us limited access and we publish for you. We record the state of a page before every change so it can be rolled back, and nothing about your business is published without your approval.
How much does GEO cost with Echo Tuner?
Audit & Plan: $2,500 once, included with any monitoring. Monitoring: Standard (provider level) $2,500 per check, monthly or quarterly; Deep (model level) adds every AI model for $1,500 more per check. Website Fixes: included when your own web developer makes them, quoted when we do. Reputation & Reach services: $500 a month each. No long-term contract — cancel anytime.
Every price: (1) Audit & Plan $2,500 once, included with any monitoring (or skip it); (2) Website Fixes — minimal changes or a GEO-optimized rebuild — included when the client's own web developer makes them from our plan, or made by Echo Tuner for a quote (usually $2,500–$6,000 for minimal changes, from $10,000 for a GEO-optimized rebuild); (3) Monitoring — each check tests hundreds of customer questions, from simple to complex, on the major AI providers and reports how often the business appears at each depth of question and the tone AI uses about it — chosen monthly, quarterly or not at all for each level: Standard monitoring at provider level (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, using each one's everyday model) $2,500 per check; Deep monitoring at model level (every current model people can use in those assistants, 19 in all) $4,000 per check, which includes the Standard check — so it adds $1,500 when it replaces a Standard check in the same month; (4) Reputation & Reach, each done in a format designed for AI models to take in, so they learn about the business from third parties: reviews $500/month; AI-readable articles (one a month) $500/month; press & mentions $500/month; listings $500/month. How do payment and cancelling work?
You choose a plan in your portal and pay by card at checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number. Monthly items are billed every month and quarterly items every three months, from the day you start. The audit on its own is billed once, and website work we do for you is quoted and invoiced separately.
Cancel anytime from your portal's Plan tab: cancelling immediately stops any further charges, and each service you have already paid for stays active until the end of the period it was paid for. There is no long-term contract.
Do you work with businesses in my area?
Yes. We work online with businesses wherever their customers are. There's nothing to visit: everything happens in your portal and by email, and we test the questions your customers ask in the places they ask them.
Do you work with small businesses and companies new to GEO?
Yes. Many businesses have never checked how AI assistants describe them, and the first fixes are often simple: stating prices, service areas and what is included in plain words.
We explain every finding without jargon and ask you only to confirm facts and approve changes. GEO for small businesses.
Do you work with larger and multi-location companies?
Yes. For larger companies we assess each product line or service separately, compare you with named competitors on the same questions, track each AI model as its own series, and keep an approval trail for every change.
What happens after the audit?
You decide. You can make the changes yourself from the plan, have us implement them, and add monitoring to re-measure monthly or quarterly.
The audit is useful on its own: every recommendation comes with the evidence behind it and the page it applies to.
How do clients see their results?
Each client has a private portal with their assessment, page-by-page findings, the AI answers we recorded and their plan.
Sign in on the client login page with the email and password on your account. The portal link in your Echo Tuner emails works too.
Our practices
Do you write reviews, buy mentions or create fake profiles?
No. We never write or buy reviews, invent testimonials, create fake profiles or pay for mentions.
We help you collect genuine feedback from real customers, correct inaccurate listings and earn mentions from sources that would genuinely cover you. Fabricated signals can mislead buyers, break platform rules and damage the trust AI systems place in your business.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It is optional. An llms.txt file is a short plain-text summary of a site for AI tools; it costs little to add, but Google states that its search systems do not use it, and no AI provider has confirmed that it changes recommendations.
We include one on this site as an example and treat it as a low-priority extra, never as a substitute for clear pages. You can read ours.
Does structured data (schema.org markup) help with AI search?
Structured data helps machines read the facts on a page — your business name, location, services, prices and frequently asked questions — but only when it matches what the page visibly says.
We add or correct it as part of fixes and validate it. It is not a ranking guarantee, and markup that claims things the page does not show can do harm.
What information do you collect about my business?
For an audit we collect your public web pages, the answers AI models give to buyer questions about your market, and public sources such as listings and reviews.
We store them in our assessment platform so findings can be checked later. We do not need customer data or private systems. See our Privacy Notice or contact us at info@echotuner.com.
